About the Project
ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project is called Flavor of Bethlehem: A Celebration of People and Food. It focuses on the relationship between food and community in the Bethlehem area. We want to tell the story of our community through the foods we cherish. Eating and preparing food has a unique way of defining who we are, and sharing that aspect of our identity brings us together. This project will involve researching the evolving neighborhoods and demographics of Bethlehem, the city’s iconic foods and landmark restaurants, the stories of the city’s residents and the foods they love. Share your stories! The end goal of the project is to have the most memorable and loved recipes from Bethlehem all compiled onto one domain, where people can read and experience other people's stories from around the community. It will also be showcased as part of Touchstone Theatre's Festival UnBound in October 2019.

The project needs your help! If you have any favorite recipes to share, as well as food-related Bethlehem memories, we would love for you to send them in. Scroll below or visit the Forum section to learn how!

ABOUT US

Christopher Shorr

Shorr is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he directs the Theatre Program and serves as Artistic Director of the Moravian College Theatre Company, and is a member of the Touchstone Theatre company.  Primarily a stage director and playwright, Shorr also works as a set designer and composer for theatre. Through all of his work, he strives to prevent audiences, collaborators, and himself from succumbing to complacency. He is particularly interested in the creation of new theatre pieces and in the aggressive re-working of classic texts.  He moved to Bethlehem from Petersburg, Virginia, where he was the founding Artistic Director of Sycamore Rouge—a professional, non-equity theatre and arts center. While in Virginia, he served as a panelist for the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and on the boards of the Southside Virginia Council for the Arts and the Petersburg Arts Council. He holds a BA in Theatre Arts from Drew University, and an MFA in Stage Directing from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Corinne Philbin

Corinne is a junior at Moravian College, studying English and Theatre. She is Company Manager of the Moravian College Theatre Company, as well as Managing Editor for The Comenian, Moravian's student-run newspaper publication. She is pursuing a career in journalism. Corinne is originally from Connecticut. She has had much experience with journalistic work in her college career, including interviewing Jeffery Toobin and Alison Deming Hawthorne. She was also invited to attend the 2018 New York Times Editor's Workshop and has been awarded the Omicron Delta Kappa Progress Award for The Comenian. She primarily acts in productions at Moravian, but has had experience behind the scenes as Assistant Stage Manager and helping with crew, and will be directing next spring.
